Chris Webb is the former Head of News and Deputy Director of Media and Communication for the Metropolitan Police Service. Recognised as one of the UK’s leading experts in critical incident media handling, crisis communication and crisis management, he has dealt with almost every major incident and high profile security event to impact on London in nearly three decades. On the morning of 7/7 he was appointed the Strategic Communication Lead for all the blue light services to direct and coordinate the media and communication response to the bombings.
He has played a major role in advising and influencing police services nationally and central Government on crisis communication policy, plans and structures. Following the 9/11 attacks in America he was asked by Ministers to head a working group to establish how London would handle media and communication in the event of a multi-sited terrorist attack.
He now provides strategic communication advice and support to the police service nationally, local authorities, charities and other organisation to help them plan and prepare for a crisis. He has recently dealt with the G8 Summit of world leaders in Northern Ireland and the NATO Summit in Wales.
